Yesterday we told you about various reports alleging that legendary Rush drummer (Neil Peart) might be retiring. You can read our blog here. In fact, reports “confirming” that the “Professor” retired are still coming in as we speak. Fortunately, we here at Beato’s Blog erred on the side of caution and didn’t buy it based on the quote that many believed was Peart’s proclamation into retirement. As it turns out we were right and the Professor is not done after all as per Rush bassist Geddy Lee. Multiple sources are now quoting Geddy as qualifying his drummers’s comments by saying:
“There’s really nothing to say. I think Neil is just explaining his reasons for not wanting to tour, with the toll that it’s taking on his body. That’s all I would care to comment on it. We’ll get together eventually and chat about things. But in my view, there is certainly nothing surprising in what he said. Neil just feels that he has to explain with all the thousands of people asking, ‘Why no more tours?’ He needs to explain his side of it.”
In our view Peart’s comments (and other circumstances) did not rise to the level of an outright retirement announcement and as one source is now reporting Lee said that the media took Peart’s comment out of context. Check out that report here.
In fact, Lee was asked directly whether the quote was taken out of context and in response Lee said:
“I think that’s absolutely right. That’s their job. Talking about something when there’s nothing to talk about.”
Got it, Professor. Lesson learned.
