A little while ago we reported on Dr. Dre’s new album and you can read that blog here. Well, now Dr. Dre is taking care of business. . . . .big time.
Compton, Dre’s new album has streamed 25 million times in its first week on Apple Music. Additionally, Apple says the album also sold half a million downloads through iTunes. The album was heavily promoted through Apple Music and iTunes and is exclusively available through those two media outlets. Compton also lands at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 295,000 units, 265,000 of which account for pure album sales. So, what did Dre have to say about this recent surge?
“I’ve never considered myself a rapper. I know how to do it. I know how to make my voice project and I know how to stay on beat and what have you, but I’ve never considered myself a rapper. [However,] I’m a producer at heart. I like being in the control room and directing people. That’s what I do. But I’ve gotten on the mic a few times in my career, people seem to like it, so I’ll do it again here and there. But that’s really not my thing. So I’ll do a first verse on the record, then I’ll put the really talented rapper on the second verse.”
Keep your eye on Dre. We suspect Compton will keep climbing until it’s outta here.
