This week’s Side B accolades go to legendary rocker Neil Young who has just revealed the 2016 lineup he has assembled for his annual Bridge School Benefit Concert. Advertised as an annual, all acoustic, non-profit charity event held every October (now in its 30th year), this event benefits the Bridge School which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. This year’s event will be held on October 22nd and 23rd at the Shoreline Amphitheater which is located at One Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, California 94043.

Editor’s Note: For more information on this charitable event including making donations, please visit http://www.bridgeschool.org/concert/. For information on the Bridge School itself please visit their website at https://www.bridgeschool.org/.

This year’s lineup will include headliners Roger Waters, Metallica, and Dave Matthews alongside My Morning Jacket, Willie Nelson, Cage the Elephant and Norah Jones, amongst others. Young will also be appearing with his new band, Promise of the Real.

This undoubtedly is a great show for a great cause and definitely an effort worthy of support. Additionally, because of this wonderful event this week’s Side B award goes to Neil Young. Keep on rockin’ in the free world Mr. Young.

“That’s like saying there are mountains in Tibet. We know, Neil. We already knew.”

David Crosby commenting on Neil Young’s statement from last October that Young would have nothing further to do with CSNY

On the heels of constant in-fighting within CSN, Graham Nash has finally said perhaps what many already thought; the group–as far as he is concerned–is done.  Nash had this to say:

“You asked me if there’s more of CSN? My answer is ‘no,’ and that’s very sad, because we’re pretty good. But I don’t like David Crosby right now. He’s been awful to me these last two years, just fucking awful. I’ve been there and saved his fucking ass for 45 years – and he treated me like shit. You can’t do that to me. You can do it for a day or so, until I think you’re going to come round. But when it goes on longer, and I keep getting nasty emails from him, I’m done. Fuck you.”

He later added this:

“Right now, I don’t want anything to do with Crosby at all. It’s just that simple. In my world there will never, ever be a Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young record and there will never be another Crosby, Stills & Nash record or show.”David Crosby

David Crosby

Well, Graham Nash sure made his position clear–at least for now. In any event, Nash has a solo album out April 15 which is entitled This Path Tonight while Crosby is on tour in North America. Maybe some time apart will do these guys some good (a reunion would certainly not be out of character considering the on again/off again history of the group) but then again, maybe they are done after all. Time will tell.

Panic No More. . . .New Album On The Way

Panic! At The Disco, via Brendon Urie, recently said that their long awaited upcoming album (due out after July 22) will somewhat resemble the band’s rockin’ debut disc entitled A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (2005).

Said Urie:

“The plan is to finish up the album. It’s just so close now! Getting that done is going to take up a lot of our time. I have 10 or 11 songs written that are huge candidates to be on the album, and I’m just going to keep writing. That’s plenty of songs to make an album, but what I like to do now is write about 15 or 16 songs, and pick my 10 or 11 favorites that I feel share the same message and mentality to go on the album and essentially become this yearbook.”

Panic! is a Beato’s Blog favorite and we can’t wait for this new record to be out.  Look for our review on it.

Streaming?. . . Neil Young Says No Way!

Ya know because of technology and artists’ rights, we have been telling you about who is, and who is not, deciding to stream their music.  For example, AC/DC has just signed on however, Prince has largely signed off the streaming wagon.  The issue, for most artists, has been whether they are being fairly compensated.   Well, leave it to Neil Young to reinvent reasons not to stream.  Young, 69, yesterday said that he won’t allow streaming not because he is not being fairly compensated, but because of poor sound quality.  Holy Motorcycle Mama! Said Young:

“I don’t need my music to be devalued by the worst quality in the history of broadcasting or any other form of distribution.  I don’t feel right allowing this to be sold to my fans. It’s bad for my music.”

Young, notable for telling others to keep “rockin’ in the free world” under a “harvest moon,” has been known to create his own “hurricanes.”  No reason you should stop now Neil, you “old man.”

Well That Does Impress Me Much!

It’s good to see Canadian performer Shania Twain is going out in style.  Twain’s Rock This Country tour is posting sell out after sell out as Shania is slated to 60 North American cities through October.  Indeed, the tour has grossed $19.3 million in sales from 15 shows at the first 11 venues on the 18-week jaunt.  Twain last toured 11 years ago behind the 2002 release of her fourth — and most recent — album Up!.

Indeed Shania, “you’re still the one.”
