Following the debacle with the Eye of the Tiger blaring on loudspeakers as Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, who refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses, took to a stage after her release from jail, R.E.M. has announced that it is similarly not happy with The Donald for doing the same thing with It’s The End Of The World at one of his campaign events. As to Survivor they Tweeted:
“I have not authorized the use of Eye of the Tiger for use by Kim Davis and my publisher will issue a C&D. This does not reflect my views.”
Jim Peterik, guitarist and founder of Survivor
As to R.E.M. Trump recently took the stage to the R.E.M. tune which prompted the band to release a statement condoning that he—and any other presidential candidates—”cease and desist” from playing any of their songs. The band’s statement is below:
This is not D.T.’s first blush with unhappy artists. You might remember that in June, The Donald used classic rocker Neil Young’s Rockin’ In The Free World much to Young’s dismay. Young’s manager later issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump was not authorized to use ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement. Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for President of the United States Of America.”
Wasn’t it D.T. who once said?: “I feel a lot of people listen to what I have to say.” Yeah, that’s true. Apparently they also listen to what you play too.
