Not In My Domain: Taylor Acts Swiftly

You might remember that we just did a piece on domain names. You can view it here. If you thought that this topic was a distant one or just for the academics, think again. It’s real. How real? Starting on June 1 of this year the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (www.icann.org) will allow people to buy names ending in “.sucks,” “.adult,” and “.porn,” among other options. Pop megastar Taylor Swift has stepped up and she has acquired the rights to “taylorswift.porn” and “taylorswift.adult.” Richard Branson has also joined the fray acquiring rights to a domain name. Other celebrities are sure to follow. The point is with internet trolls, the domain name game is a big one. Here at Beato’s Blog we will continue to monitor the situation with an eye on how our digital world continues to evolve. That’s the name of this game.
