When it comes to supporting a cause or rallying to raise money either on a stage or manning a phone bank, musicians are the first responders. We remember The Concert for Bangladesh (’71), Live Aid (’85), Farm Aide (’85), The Concert for New York (post 9/11/01), Sandy Relief (2012) and others. The heart of the music industry beats loud and faithful. Musicians are involved in more ways than raising money. They raise the spirits of the downfallen, the terminally ill and ease the pain of the wounded warrior. Some studies have shown that music can produce astounding effects on a patient’s condition from lowering blood pressure, easing depression, to significantly reducing chronic pain.
Musicians On Call (MOC), a non-profit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities has been bringing the healing power of music to hospitals across the country. Their bedside performance programs were developed to enhance the quality and effectiveness of clinical care for patients and are active in major hospitals in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Denver and Miami. Their website www.musiciansoncall.org shares videos of bedside performances by musician supporters like Ed Sheeran, Nick Jonas and James Taylor as well as hundreds of MOC musician volunteers. Inspired by the magic of a spontaneous event at MemorialSloane-Kettering Cancer Center back in 1999, Co-Founders Michael Solomon and Vivek Tiwary and later an all-star Board of artist management and entertainment industry juggernauts keep the mission of this worthy organization going.
On October 21, 2015 Musicians on Call will be presenting the ROCK THE ROOM TOUR which kicks off in Nashville at the City Winery featuring performances by Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride and special appearance from the great Reba McIntyre. The four city tour will celebrate Music On Call’s impact in the 4 major markets of Nashville, New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. and support their programs and honor their volunteers.
Tickets for the Rock The Room Tour are available now at www.musiciansoncall.org/RTRT.
We hope you will check out the RTR Tour and the Musicians On Call organization that is expanding its volunteer program in several more cities across the USA. When your music rocks the world of a patient, your world and theirs just gets better.
